Robyn Lee Young

August 11, 1954 – September 8, 2024

Robyn Lee Young, 70, of Coos Bay, loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend passed away on September 8, 2024 in Springfield, Oregon following a brief respiratory illness.  Born on August 11, 1954 in Joplin Missouri to Barbara Smith and Jack Duncan, she moved to California by train at a young age, after her parents had divorced.  Her mother married Jack Boyle of San Jose, California, the father Robyn knew for most of her childhood.  She married Craig Young when both were students at Brigham Young University. They first became acquainted when Craig was serving as the naturalist at a church girl’s camp where Robyn was a counselor.  They were married in 1976 in the Salt Lake City temple and were happily married for 49 years.   

Robyn completed her bachelor’s degree in art at B.Y.U. and retained a vibrant interest in the arts for her entire life.  She was a painter, sculptor and seamstress, and an avid collector of art reproductions from around the world, especially porcelain dolls, dishes and ceramic sculpture.  She spent her married life primarily in western Canada, the San Juan Islands of Washington, Florida and the Oregon Coast. With her family, she visited 17 countries in Europe.    

Robyn loved her role as mother and was proud of her posterity. She is survived by husband Craig Young, two brothers, Christopher (Shoko) Boyle and Bob (Susan) Boyle, and her children, April (Matthew) Thorpe, Andrew (Alexis) Young, Stephanie (Paul) Fitzsimon and Jessica Young. She has three grandchildren, Taylor, McKenzie and Evelyn.   

Robyn was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis for the last 30 years of her life and maintained an inspiringly positive attitude during nearly two decades in which she had lost the use of her legs. She was an animal enthusiast and was accompanied by rabbits, dogs and various talking birds during her years of confinement. She loved the scriptures and studied them nearly daily  

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3355 Virginia Avenue in North Bend, Oregon.  A visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Orem, Utah city cemetery, in the shadow of Mount Timpanogos, on Friday, September 20, 2024.
