Hilda Ellen Wuethrich

Hilda Ellen Wuethrich passed away peacefully at her Ocean Ridge home on October 29,2022 in Coos Bay, Oregon at the age of 98.

A Memorial Service will be held November 19th at 1pm at the First Christian Church located at 2420 Sherman Ave. North Bend.

Hilda was born in1924 to German immigrants Konrad and Viola Weinert, in Hiawatha Township, Michigan, the second of 13 children. She moved with her family to Bruce, Wisconsin, where she met William Walter Wuethrich. Hilda worked in the city at a Cannery while waiting for Bill’s return from the war. In 1946, they married and eventually settled in the Coos Bay area of the Oregon Coast, where they raised their family of eight children.

In the Columbus Day storm of 1962, their Allegany home was blown from its foundation, and they moved their family to Englewood where Bill built the family home. She remained there until a broken hip forced her to move to an assisted care facility.

She was a loving mother and devoted wife, who spent her life looking after others. After raising eight children of her own, she babysat just because she loved children. Later her house would be filled with many grandchildren, who adored her and she adored them. She also loved her husband, Bill deeply. After his massive stroke, her gracious loving care enabled him to live another ten years.

A wonderful homemaker, she loved to cook, grow big gardens, can food, and sew for her family. She loved to bake and all her kids and grandkids knew when they walked in the door they would be greeted with hugs, smiles and of course platters of monster cookies. We all looked forward to family gatherings with delicious meals and tasty treats.

A member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hilda had many cherished friends in her Bible Study group. She was a devout Christian and always prayed for each and every one of us. She always told me, “I pray for you all and then I leave it with the Lord. I don’t worry and I have peace.” She will be greatly missed but we know we will see her again.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband William, daughter Judith and son Thomas Wuethrich.

She is survived by her 6 children, John (Sharon) Wuethrich, Ernie (Murree) Wuethrich, Rosemary Wuethrich, Dennis (Nancy) Wuethrich, Veta Bush, Michele (Dareld) Woods and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
